Rules for Men's Doubles

1. A club may enter one or two teams of men's doubles in the A, B, or C, divisions. If two teams are entered in any division, they will be designated 1 and 2.

2. League play days are Tuesday, "B"; Wednesday, "A"; and Thursday "C".

3. Rosters of 6 to 12 players for each team must be registered with the Club Coordinator or Team Captain prior to the Team's first scheduled match. "A" players are considered to be NTRP level 4.5 or higher, "B" players about a 4.0, and "C" players about a 3.5, although these are guidelines not strictly enforced as in NTRP leagues. Club pro may play on "A" team but not on "B" or "C" team unless he is rated less than a 4.5 or if unrated, older than 55 years of age. Current college varsity players are only eligible to play on an "A" team. Minimum player age shall be 19 years old.

4. Three doubles combinations constitute a team. When a team fields less than three doubles combinations, the remaining combinations must play at 1 and 2 unless team captains mutually agree to waive this rule.

5. Dues of  $60.00 per team are to be paid before the season starts.

6. Matches will start no later than 6:00 P.M. unless both captains agree on a different time. A 30 minute delay after the agreed starting time will be allowed following which forfeiture will be assessed.

7. Standings will be determined by the highest point total. Winning a match is worth 2 points; a tie is worth 1 point (tie, when no decision can be determined).  Each week holds a potential for 6 points for the three matches. To determine playoff spots when the division's sections have unequal numbers of matches, the percentage number of wins is used. NOTE: League Commissioner attempts to have all sections of a division have an equal number of matches.

8.  All matches will be 2 out of 3 sets.  The 12 point tie breaker will be used in any set that goes to 6-all in games. A supertiebreaker may be played in lieu of a 3rd set in the event of darkness coming or inclement weather with agreement of both captains. This is preferable to not finishing. However, this should only be done if it does not look like a full three sets can be played.

9. Postponement of matches will be allowed only for weather. Matches should be played on the scheduled day. In securing courts, the priorities listed below MUST be followed.

            1) The HOME TEAM provides OUTDOOR courts

            2) The VISITING TEAM provides OUTDOOR courts.

            3) The HOME TEAM provides INDOOR courts. Both teams divide cost of indoor courts.

            4) The VISITING team provides INDOOR courts. Both teams divide cost of indoor courts.

If no courts are available, then a mutually agreeable date(s) of play must be scheduled within two weeks.  All teams will not necessarily be playing at the same time. If Team Captains do not arrange to play and have their team play within two weeks (or by the end of the regular schedule, whichever is first), then a team receives three points in the first such incident for a team, two points for the second such incident, one point for the third such incident and no points if it happens for the fourth time for that team. This rule provides an incentive for a team to make up rainouts. In the event a team does not make a reasonable attempt at making up a rainout (e.g. refusing two or more dates from its opponent), it will be subject to a default at the discretion of the League Commissioner.

10. Any unfinished match will be resumed at the exact point of incompletion unless captains mutually decide otherwise..

11. Scores of matches and lineups will be transmitted to the League Commissioner as soon as possible following the match. Home Team Captain will use e-mail to millerk@tiac.net to convey match scores to League Commissioner within one day of the match. An electronic template to be used in reporting scores can be downloaded from the web site. These scores will be sent by League Commissioner via e-mail to team captains weekly. Scoring errors will be corrected by team captains as they are received.

12. Any team defaulting an entire match will be subject to suspension from the League and forfeiture of its entry fee for that team, at the discretion of the League Commissioner.

13. Head to Head results will determine the sectional winner in the event of a tie in total points at the end of the season.

14. Home Court advantage for Divisional Playoff will be determined by taking each teams (number of points won) divided by (number of matches played). Team with highest points per match will host the playoff.

15. Team lineups will be set up in order of strength, with the strongest playing #1.

16. Playoff matches must be played on scheduled days.

17. Players must have played in two of the regular season matches to be eligible to compete in the playoff for that season. Enforcement is solely the responsibility of the League Commissioner.

18. Teams that only win 6 points or less in the season will be subject to be downgraded to the next level at the discretion of the League Commissioner. This could also lead to upgrades at the discretion of the League Commissioner.

19. No player may compete in a Division below that of his registered status. If a player plays two matches at a higher Division, he will be considered registered at that higher Division, and cannot play below his newly registered status. The intent is to make sure players are available to play so that in an emergency, a lower division player can play up for one match without penalty. IT IS NOT THE INTENT TO HAVE HIGHER PLAYERS PLAY IN A LOWER DIVISION TO STRENGTHEN THEM. Defaults are heavily discouraged and this rule is intended to give some flexibility for players that can be used to avoid defaults.

20. Individual trophies, to a maximum of 8, and a team plaque, will be awarded the winning team in each division.

21. In case of the necessity for interpretation of these Regulations, the League Commisioner will be the arbitrator.
